Digital Inclusion Course

The Digital Inclusion Course was developed and implemented to aid educators in developing expertise in inclusive higher education and digital learning. Its purpose was to support them in providing equitable educational opportunities to every student in online, hybrid, and blended learning environments.

The course was designed for educators who were new to digital education pedagogies and, as such, could benefit from a complete ‘course package’ rather than individual modules. The course served as an example of how to implement an inclusive digital education course in practice, with the course itself incorporating the critical success factors outlined in the Handbook for Inclusive Digital Education. In 2022, the course was piloted at the virtual campus of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.

The course was developed using the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya’s Challenge-Nest Model. This innovative methodology for designing online courses, developed by the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, enables course participants to achieve educational competency goals.

Below, we present an open-access course design outline outlining the key components of the learning strategy implemented in the course, as well as the primary resources and educational technologies used.

Lecturers and university staff can use this open-access course design outline as a basis to plan and implement online courses that aim to build capacities in digital inclusion within their respective higher education institutions.
